Damn , that does suck - Password manager is the best shout here, make sure you friend resets everything and starts from scratch
If your friend are able to recover his/her account, make sure to use password manager to generate random password and enable 2FA.
Best is to use 2 different services for password manager and 2FA instead of the same.
